Syrym shykkan tobe, the memorial complex
Located 89 km from Uralsk on the Samara-Shymkent highway in the visual perception zone of the highway (Syrym district, West Kazakhstan region). The monument is located at the Ankaty-Yersary River, 12 km to the east of the village Toganas.
Syrym Datov (1712-1802) is a famous name in the history of Kazakh people. The elder of the Baibakty family, he headed the national anti-colonial, national-liberation movement of the Kazakhs of the Junior Zhuz. Land tightness, prohibition by the tsarist authorities of the pastoralists' crossing to the right bank of the Ural River, infringement of the rights of clan elders, violence against simple nomads by sultans, the Ural Cossack army and the tsarist administration led to the uprising of Kazakhs. Among the leaders of the people's movement are also Barak Batyr and Telenshi Batyr. By that time Syrym was 60 years old, he enjoyed well-deserved respect and authority for his wisdom and bravery. After his defeat in the rebellion, he was forced to move to Khiva.
The elevation (the Syrym Tobe) on which the monument is located was erected by Syrym and his soldiers in 1790. On clear days from it can be seen the district at a distance of 10-15 km. At the top of the hill Syrym set up a patrol. According to legend, soldiers of Syrym climbed without stopping at its top and ran down, creating the appearance of many soldiers, thereby misleading the enemies and causing them to fear. In 1992, an obelisk was installed on this hill.
In 2007, in honor of the 265th anniversary of Syrym Datov, a memorial complex was built at this place, where a capsule with land brought from Uzbekistan from the place of his burial was placed. It was established as a result of the scientific expedition led by M.N. Sdykov. Syrym Datov's grave is located in Mailyshengel, 9 km from the district center of Gurlen. In 2007, in the village of Gurlen, Khorezm province, a tombstone made of black marble with the inscription "Gaip-ata-Syrim Datuly" was opened next to the mausoleum as a tribute to the memory of the Batyr.
The complex is an open structure like a rotunda with four stable supports and a ceiling, crowned with a large central dome in the form of a yurt and four small corner domes in the form of peaks. The central dome completes the high spire in the form of an eastern peak. The planes between the columns end with side arches. In the center of the building there is a memorial stone with engraved inscription. Behind the building there is a pedestal on which three peaks of equal height are fixed. On the peaks there is a shield symbolizing the shield of S.Datov. On both sides of the peaks there are two curved concrete walls in the form of two wings. A concrete staircase was built to allow visitors to approach the memorial stone. The building is located on a monolithic reinforced concrete slab installed on the top of the hill.
To the right of the main entrance to the building there is another pedestal. There are sculptural images of the saddle and dombra. The color scheme of the memorial complex is represented by the turquoise color of the dome, white columns, gray and blue tiles and gray memorial stone. The spire is golden or silver. The construction is a single monolithic structure.
The place enjoys great attention of tourists, history lovers, specialists, and people just passing along the highway.
