Expedition of the Kostanay Pedagogical Institute
The expedition of the Kostanay Pedagogical Institute began excavations of the Late Bronze Age settlement, located near the "Konezavod" village of Kostanay region, on the first floodplain terrace of Tobol River. The residential area of the settlement is partially destroyed.
One of the two chambers of a sub-square dwelling (16.8 X X 15.6 m) was unearthed, deepened by 0.75 m into the mainland sand layer. A corridor-like exit towards the river and a passage to another chamber, four fireplaces, a stone hearth, eight household pits were recorded. More than 140 pillar pits were noted along the walls of the dwelling from the outer and inner sides.
Pottery is represented by fragments of flat-bottomed, roughly made pots with an admixture of sand in the dough. Carved ornament prevails. Sometimes the neck or top of the body was decorated with herringbone and indentations. A part of a bronze mower represents the clothing material with a round hole at the end, fragments of a dagger with a short stem, a bronze piercer, 50 dice (made from sheep astragalus), five pebble polishers, a small stone hammer, part of a massive stone pestle, pieces of copper ore.
A schematic representation of a human face is applied on one of the sides of a clay disc measuring 8.5X8 cm and 3.2 cm thick. The shape of the disk quite accurately conveys the oval of the face. A bone horse, similar to Sadchikov's, was found in the ejection from the pit under the spore of the power line.
