Research in the North Kazakhstan and Kokchetav regions
A detachment of the North Kazakhstan Regional Museum of Local Lore excavated the Early Bronze Age Vishnevka 1 settlement on the northwestern outskirts of Petropavlovsk. Two excavations unearthed 198 sq. m of the cultural layer, partially destroyed by late deposits. The ceramic complex of the site is represented by fragments and ruins of jar vessels, ornamented with pit impressions and in the receding technique. Scrapers dominate the flint inventory on flakes and arrowheads. The largest number of tools was made on flakes of jasper-like rock. An interesting find is a bone stick for ornamenting next to a vessel decorated with it. The collection also includes flat bone with holes for fastening and a pattern in dotted lines and stone balls (bolas).
Exploration in the vicinity of Petropavlovsk on the first floodplain terrace of the left bank of the Ishim opened several sites of the Vishnevka type. Several settlements and burial grounds of different times were examined on the river Akkanburluk in the Kokchetav region.
