Research of the Karaganda detachment
A detachment of the Karaganda University as part of the Central Kazakhstan expedition of the Institute of History, Archeology and Ethnography of the Academy of Sciences of the Kazakh SSR conducted research in the Taldy district of the Karaganda region. The Satan burial ground is located on the hill of the same name, 5 km northwest of the village of Frunze, on the left bank of the Taldy River and includes mounds and fences made of stone slabs. Three burial mounds, three fences and six children's and youth burials without external signs on the surface were excavated. A ditch and a fence made of slabs dug on edge were found under the mounds of kurgans 1-3, 8.6-13.3 m in diameter and 0.6-1.14 m high. In the center of the enclosures, there were grave pits 3.8-3.9x2-2.65 m in size and 1.07-1.37 m deep. In one of them, the remains of a burnt wooden wheel rim and hubs were preserved; in the other, four bone studs and a piece of upholstery (?) of the wheel were found. Between these pits, narrow strips of decay were traced, limiting a rectangle measuring 1.20x0.67-0.75 m - possibly the remains of a chariot platform. In the grave of kurgan 3, a single-crown log cabin made of thick hewn logs, covered with transverse planks and stone slabs, has been preserved. In the central part of two enclosures, one stone box was noted, in the third there was a ground grave. Behind fence 1, three children's earth graves and a stone box were found. The clothing material is represented by bronze and fin beads, a knife, bone arrowheads, fragments of bracelets, a complex braid, gilded temporal pendants, and round earrings. Vessels are pot-shaped, including rib ones and jar-shaped with a geometric pattern. The burial ground belongs to the late Petrovka or early Alakul time.
The Karagash burial ground is located 2.5 km north of the Frunze village at the foot of the Kent Mountains. There are 18 enclosures and five mounds with stone fill. The fences are rectangular in plan, 3-5х2-4 m in size, made of slabs up to 1.8 m long and up to 1.2 m high dug into the edge. Some of the slabs have recesses for transportation. The mounds are 3-8 m in diameter and up to 0.15 m high. In the southern part of the burial ground, there is a mound 30 m in diameter and 0.9 m high. One mound and four enclosures have been excavated. The enclosures contain stone boxes 0.30-0.45 m deep from the surface. All graves have been robbed. The funeral rite and inventory have analogies in the Begazy-Dandybai sites.
The Ashchi-Ozek burial ground is located on the left bank of the river of the same name at its confluence with the Taldy River, 11 km northwest of the Frunze village. Seven fences and six weakly expressed mounds are visible on the surface. Four fences have been excavated. Three of them are attached to each other. Seven burials were unearthed in stone cists, oriented mainly from the southwest to the northeast. The graves have been destroyed. Fragments of ceramics, bronze handicrafts, three dozen bronze and paste beads were found. Judging by the ceramics, which has an Alakul appearance, the burial ground belongs to the circle of Alakul (Atasu) monuments.
In addition, two locations of petroglyphs near the Kiylbai and Baizhan winterings, 15 km west of the village of Frunze, were examined. Also, images of people, camels, horses, argali marked.
