Research of the Karaganda detachment
A detachment of Karaganda University, together with the regional Society for the Protection of Historical and Cultural Monuments, the Palace of Pioneers of Karaganda and the regional museum, excavated monuments of the Bronze Age and surveyed the Zharly, Kopa and Kenetai rivers. More than 50 monuments of different times discovered.
On the state farm Nurken in the Karkaraly region, excavations of the Kopa I settlement began (400 sq. m.) Unearthed a dwelling of the final Bronze Age, which cut through the cultural layer of the developed Bronze Age. The foundation pit of the dwelling is round in shape, 1 m deep and two stone hearths, the collapse of a stone stove, up to 70 households and about 200 post pits were found. Bone ruffles, piercings, tubes, two skates, a bronze awl, stone pestles, a ceramic spindle whorl, and a socketed bone two-pronged arrowhead were found. Excavations at the settlement of Kopa II yielded several fragments of pottery from the advanced Bronze Age, a spindle whorl, and bone piercers. In the burial grounds of Kopa I and Nurken, two enclosures with stone boxes containing material of the Atasu type were cleared.
At the settlement of Ust-Kenetai in the Osakarov district, dilapidated dwellings (100 square meters) with a stone hearth, three fireplaces and two utility pits was excavated. Ceramics, stone pestles, polishes, grindstones, bones of domestic animals were found. This dwelling of the Late Bronze period cut through the cultural layer of developed bronze, where the remains of a stove were made of stone slabs, pieces of copper ore, slag, bronze inflow, and ceramics of the Atasu type were recorded. Excavations of the settlement of Semiozernoye II in the Kostanay region continued. Two dwellings have been opened. In one of them, the remains of a bronze-casting adobe furnace, pieces of ore, and slag have been preserved. The settlement of ancient metallurgists belongs to the Novokumak stage.
