Research in the Tselinograd region
The North Kazakhstan expedition continued to work in the Tselinograd region. On the river Zhabai, excavations of a soil burial ground near the village of Pokrovka, Atbasar district, have been completed. For three years, 170 children's and 10 adult burials were unearthed here on an area of 1200 sq. m. The graves are located compactly, near the eastern or northeastern walls, single pillar depressions from the tomb structures were fixed. At the mainland level, the pits are covered with stone slabs. 215 vessels were found, generally of the Alakul appearance, and an insignificant set of ornaments.
The study of the Late Bronze Age burial ground Sargary II was continued. Nine more burials with stone fill or slab fences were found. The pits are subrectangular or oval, oriented in the latitudinal direction, measuring 1.4–2.3х0.7-1.7х1.4 m. In some cases, wall cladding with large slabs has been preserved. Burials were found in six pits. Burials were made on the right side, with bent legs and arms. Of interest is the burial in Pit 14. Although it was robbed, five vessels and two bronze items (a dagger-spear and a razor with a rounded blade) were found in it. 13 vessels were found in the burial ground, similar to the ceramics of the settlements of the final Bronze Age in Northern Kazakhstan.
At the foot of the hills, in the area of the Sargary II burial ground, there are six barrows “with a mustache”. The work was carried out on the largest facility with an area of about 1500 square meters. The monument consists of two mounds with a diameter of 10 m and a height of 0.3 m, from which arched stone ridges 270 m long and 3 m wide depart to the northwest and southeast. Both "mustache" begin and end with stone elevations. Two main burial mounds, three elevations and adjacent areas of "mustaches" have been fully explored. The mound of mounds and elevations consists of black soil, covered from above by a thick layer of flat slabs. When dismantling the stone shells, several badly burnt animal bones were found. There are no remains of material culture in the studied area.
