Research on the medieval Makhandy tortkul in 2019-2020

In 2019-2020, the Shu archaeological detachment (Ye.Akymbek, M..Shagirbayev) of the South Kazakhstan Complex Archaeological Expedition of the A.H.Margulan Institute of Archaeology conducted archaeological excavations at the medieval tortkul Mahandy in the Shu Region. Excavations and pit excavations at the monument show that there are two construction horizons in the cultural construction of the monument. The stratigraphic structure of the excavation shows that there was a fire in the life of the city. Based on the excavations, were identified the features of the planography of the monument. The most of materials found at the monument are pottery and animal bones. Although the glazed pottery fragments did not come out of the excavation, a small amount of glass fragments was found. Archaeological analysis of animal bones showed that all types of domestic animals were used in the farms of the inhabitants of the tortkul. Conducting a comparative analysis of the features of ceramics, Makhandy tortkul dates back to the 11th-12th centuries.
