The central theme of the work of the Semirechensk archaeological expedition in 1938 – 1940 was the study of antiquities in the Chui Valley: the study of historical topography and the excavation of settlements. The works of 1939 – 1940 were carried out according to the plan of extensive exploration with a combination of exploration pits at sites most interesting from a historical and archaeological point of view. The work in 1941 was of a different nature, it was exploration in connection with the construction of the Bolshoy Chui Canal, which provided the greatest material on the Bronze Age and other periods. Before the start of the work, the participants of the expeditions were divided into 10 detachments to survey the foothill part of the Chui Valley.

As a result of the activities of this expedition, many bronze and stone products were discovered directly on the highway of the Bolshoy Chui Canal and Bronze Age settlements were discovered in the Kainda area.
