Martobe, the settlement

It is located 5 km east of the centre of the village Sairam, to the left of the Sairam-Karamurt highway. Sairam and Martobe are now part of Shymkent.

The first Martobe researchers believe that the original layout of the monument cannot be recreated. In the course of human economic activity, a significant part of the monument of archeology has been lost. The remaining one third of Martobe, in their opinion, is the remaining part of the citadel of the hillfort. In 2000, archaeological work was carried out in the settlement Martobe, which established the time of Martobe's functioning on the upper construction horizon of the I-IV centuries.

Meanwhile, this sacred site is of exceptional importance in the history of the Kazakh people. On this hill Kazakh khans, sultans and bies made fateful decisions. In this regard, we read about it from N.I. Grodekov: "Bi Sultan and Halbi know that all three hordes gathered annually for meetings (maslagat) on Martube hill (in the mountains near Sairam). The subjects of the meetings were questions about where to winter, where to fly, how to reach calmness (buitsek tynchiymyz) and how to fight. But Bi Sultan claims positively that they did not change the customs (rasm). Before the new hordes meeting, the decisions of the last meeting were not violated (buzbeidi). Under Tauke Khan, there were seven bies, "jeti jargysh", or rather "jeti jargy", i.e. seven employees (ish bittiretugun). Among them were three noble bies, one from each horde: from the Great Tule, from the Middle Kazdausty Kazbek, i.e. Kazbek with the voice of a goose (sound), from the Small Aiteke".

The area of Martobe, previously occupied by pastures, is located on the eastern outskirts of medieval Sairam. It was almost impossible to gather a huge mass of people in the narrow streets of the medieval city at that time. Undoubtedly, Martobe was not chosen by Kazakh khans as a place for maslikhat. It is known that in 1513 the inhabitants of Sairam appealed to Kasymkhan with a request to take them under their allegiance and handed over the "keys to the city". At that time there was a war between Babur and Shaibanids. The population of Sairam and the cities of his districts were tired of internecine wars and needed a reliable ruler who could take them under his guardianship.

According to Muhammad Haidar Dulati, Kasymkhan managed to unite, subdue the disparate tribes of Desht-i Kypchak and create a powerful Kazakh khanate, which no one after Zhoshy khan/Juchi khan could do, and therefore chose him as a sovereign was the right decision. Apparently, the holding of the maslikhat on Martobe to discuss important state issues was initially determined by Kasymkhan and became a tradition under subsequent Kazakh rulers.

The monument of archeology of Martobe is included in the list of historical and cultural monuments of local importance and is under state protection.
