Description

Currently, the Yamyshev gates are the only preserved part of the Semipalatinsk fortress, built by Order of Peter I in 1718. The gates and walls of the fortress were built according to the project of engineer G.I. Andreev.

The gates took its name from the Yamyshev Salt Lake. The structure is built in the form of a large arch with a domed roof and simple cornices.

In 1970, the gates were transeferd closer to the Irtysh river by 50 meters. They were dismantled and rebuilt, strengthening the foundation. The builders preserved the external image of the Yamyshev gates. The view of the Western fortress gates have been completely reconstructed.

Now the Yamyshevsky gates are one of the most picturesque sights of Semey.
