Description
A typical example of the most recent Mangyshlak complexes is the Kyzylsu necropolis of the mid-19th - early 20th centuries, located on the western outskirts of the village of the same name in the Eraliyevsk district; 12 km from Shopan-ata grave. In clear weather, it is visible from the ancient necropolis. This is a medium-sized complex, in which, along with tombstones, there is a kind of mosque without an overlap (unfinished) with angular small turrets. Among the memorial structures, there are a large number of rectangular saganatams made of sawn limestone-shell blocks with rich colorful decor of facades and interiors. In the center of the necropolis stands the mausoleum of Boran, remarkable in its integrity and unity of composition and decor, unfortunately, which has not found due appreciation in the literature.
For small forms of architecture of this unit, the trends of simplification of the compositional scheme, linearity, and geometrization of the form are characteristic. Basically, these are stepped tombstones of the ushtas, bestas type, stylized “koytas”, sarcophagus boxes. The absence of a flat-relief decor is characteristic.
