Karatobe necropolis

8 km away on west and north-west is the abovementioned Karatobe necropolis, the name of which is associated with a small but dominant hill here, where it is located. The complex belongs to the large (more than 200 monuments) and especially revered in Buzachi. In particular, a number of outstanding personalities from the Aday tribe are buried there: akyn Abyl Tleuuly, Shotan-batyr Nazaruly, the leader of the anti-colonial uprising of the 70s of the 19^th century, Dosan Tazhiuly and others. New monuments have been erected over their graves in recent years, but, in our opinion, they are not always successful in spatial and compositional solutions.

The most valuable are the traditional tombstones of the 16^th - early 20^th centuries, among which there are many very original samples. Thus, the small forms of monuments are distinguished there by a special archaism, which is expressed in the simplicity of general proportions, a rough manner of execution in general and in decorative carving - in particular, the use of large ornamental elements and “drawings”, as well as in the material itself: brown limestone-sandstone, for example, a stele with a relief image of a little man draws attention; tombstones, on the sides of which are carved “drawings” of weapons dedicated to horses; an unusual sandyktas, the front wall of which is decorated along the edges with two natural horn-shaped elements and etc. Among the monumental structures, the largest domeless mausoleum in the central part of the necropolis is of the greatest interest.
