Description

One of the most revered places in the vicinity of the Mausoleum of Khoja Ahmed Yasawi in Turkestan is the Mausoleum of Gaukhar Ana, located 6 km to the east. It is a complex of a mausoleum and a holy well under it. Pilgrims from different parts of the country stretch here by a continuous stream. Mainly they are women. According to a well-known legend, the mausoleum and grave are connected with the name of Khoja Ahmed's daughter, who was buried here. Legend has it that the events associated with these names belong to the 12th century.

The building of the mausoleum itself is a typical modern building of 2015 made of baked bricks, stylized in plan and appearance in accordance with the medieval style. Its height is 9 m, in the plan it is a portal square kiosk 6×6 m. Inside there is a sagana - tombstone densely covered with various covers. However, according to the information of the local residents, there was an ancient mausoleum with a blue dome above the grave, similar to the one erected over Rabia Sultan Begim, but smaller in size.

Traditionally, the rite of worship of the holy grave, in addition to reading memorial prayers, includes listening to the legendary information about the righteous life of Gaukhar ana and the circumstances of her death.

A hundred meters west of the mausoleum there is a "holy" well. The usual ritual of worship prescribes that women should be poured with water from this well. Since Gaukhar Ana is attributed to the possession of a healing gift, such a procedure is regarded as a necessary measure for health. For this purpose, certain conditions have been created here. There is a mosque space, as well as a souvenir shop and modest accommodation for local shyrakshy.

Worship of Gaukhar ana grave is included in the program of ziarat to the Turkestan shrines.
