Description
The functional purpose of the building predetermined the style of construction - this is a vivid example of Soviet classicism. The building is symmetrical in plan with an emphasis on the main facade. The entrance to the building is preceded by a wide staircase, strict in form. A covered gallery with columns adjacent to the building, called in architecture a portico, ends with a pediment. The capitals of the columns of the portico are made in the style of a complex Corinthian order.
The pediment, decorated with a thematic sculpture of decorative details, has pilasters. The corners of the main facade are highlighted with ledges. The middle parts of the 2nd and 3rd floors are recessed and mostly made of glass, forming a large loggia. The artistic decoration of the building was carried out under the guidance of the artist N.V. Tsikchinsky. The sculptural group on the pediment was made by the sculptor H. Nauryzbayev. The sculpture “Fish” of the pediment was made by V.S. Rapoport. The design of the building reflects the latest achievements of building craftsmanship in the mid-twentieth c. and has great aesthetic and artistic value.
