Description

The structure is a wooden one–and-a-half-story house built in 1838, in which Dostoevsky F.M. lived in 1857-1859.

Dostoevsky F.M. rented an apartment from the postman Lipukhin. In the 1970s, a two-storey building was attached to the house. There is also a paired bronze sculpture “Valikhanov Sh. and Dostoevsky F.” monumental composition by sculptor Elbakidze D.. The House-Museum of Dostoevsky F.M. was opened on May 7, 1971 on the basis of the Decree of the Council of Ministers of the Kazakh SSR No. 261. In 1975, the city library No. 15 was opened in the building. The first head of the library, Furtseva Z.G., became a collector and keeper of materials about the writer, which formed the basis of the funds of the future museum. In 1971 the museum acquired the status of a regional literary memorial.

Today it is the only museum of Dostoevsky F., located outside the Russian Federation. Over the years of its existence, the museum has accumulated a rich fund, which totals about 21581 units. Among the exhibits of the museum are the first editions of the novels “Crime and Punishment” (1867), “Teenager” (1876), “The Brothers Karamazov” (1881) and other works of the great Russian writer.

The Literary Memorial House-Museum of Dostoevsky F.M. is one of the most interesting cultural attractions of the city.
