Description

The bathhouse was built for numerous pilgrims of the mausoleum of Khoja Ahmed Yasawi during the reign of Khan Abdullah in 1580-1590. The object is located 80 m from the mausoleum. The structure is distinguished by unique engineering solutions. According to the idea of the builders, in order to preserve heat, the bathhouse is half located underground. The bath consists of nine rooms, two of them are tanks for hot and cold water, the other room was used as a heating unit, and the rest for washing. The dressing room is covered with a balkhi-type vault, the central washing hall has an octagonal shape with an octagonal sufa in the center. Another sufa for massage is arranged in the “hot” hall. The sufas and floors of the bath are lined with marble tiles. The bathhouse is distinguished by an original heating system: hot air penetrated into all rooms of the bathhouse through taps in the floor.

The bathhouse was fully operated until 1979, which testifies to the exceptional high level of ancient architecture.

Since the 80s of the 20th c., the bathhouse has been part of the museum complex and is a vivid example of medieval engineering solution.
