Description

The necropolis of Uali, monuments of cult and memorial folk architecture with a wide range of chronology – from the early Middle Ages (9th century) to the beginning 20th. It is located 63 km to the northeast of the Sai-Utes station of the Mangystau region. The area of 2.5 hectares, on which 328 monuments were found. More ancient monuments occupy the southwestern part of the necropolis and are represented by koytas and fences of limestone stones of round, square, rectangular and oval shape.

The eastern part is occupied by similar fences with kulpytas in the form of rough stones or figured slabs, resembling anthropomorphic sculptures in silhouette. Among them, the most notable is a plate with a bas-relief of a figure of a man in a hat in the form of a cylinder. There is a small one-chamber underground mosque and open fenced areas on the south side of the necropolis, the layout of which suggests that they served for the performance of religious services, burial rituals and were a place of pilgrimage. In the necropolis of Uali Khan, 5 mounds, 3 saganatams were destroyed and 2 domed mausoleums are well preserved.

The most notable are 2 saganatams in the center of the necropolis, one of which was built in 1925 by the famous master Zholybai Nosymbayev. Since 1982, the monument has been under state protection.
