Description
The monument is located in the hilly piedmont area of the northern slopes of the Tarbagatai mountain massif, 5 km north of the road Aksuat - Kindikty, next to the spring Kumisty (Tarbagatai district, East Kazakhstan region).
Doskanauly Yrgyzbai (1787-1850) was a famous healer, synykshy (chiropractor). It is known that he treated with herbs, diagnosed with a pulse, but did not charge for it. He cured Kunanbai when he was seriously ill. In response, Kunanbai gave the healer a mare with a foal and said, "If Allah allows, you will not know what you need with this mare," and his words came true. According to folk legends, Yrgyzbai Doskanauly felt the approach of the death day and reprimanded his descendants: "My grave is predestined here, my ashes do not take to Kindikty, bury me on that hill there" and pointed to the elevation within which the memorial complex is located at the moment. The saint also bequeathed: "Bury me in a stone sarcophagus. Do not erect above the grave of burial buildings, this duty is assigned to future descendants. In the beginning of the XX century, the respected aksakal Shynybai Zhanibekuly saw in his dream the Saint Yrgyzbai-ata, who with the words "My grave lies unfenced" gave him a sign to build a mausoleum. Obedient to the will of the saint, Shynybai Zhanibekuly erected it from stone. Later, in 1975, the esteemed aksakal Tagabayev Kunanbai personally erected a tombstone on the grave of Yrgyzbai Doskanauly. All works on maintenance of the memorial complex, on reception of pilgrims etc. since 2001 are headed by Tagabayev Bolat Kunanbaiuly.
The mausoleum is made in the Syrdarya tradition of two-chamber monuments with two frontal holes within the entrance part. During the last restoration, the monument was renewed with rectangular granite stones. The total dimensions of the mausoleum are 6.5×6.4 m. The granite for the monument was brought from Bayanaul. The mausoleum is dome-portal, two-chamber, angled on the sides of the world. The entrance to the funeral chamber is from the south. The prechamber room on the eastern and western walls has subtriangular windows. The size of the sarcophagus is 3.0×1.2 m. The pediment with the inscription "Aulie Yrgyzbai" is made of red marble. The height of the wall is 3 m, the height of two front towers is 3.7 m, and the height of two rear towers is 2.4 m. The total height of the mausoleum together with the crescent moon at the peak of the dome is 9.2 m. The mausoleum is decorated with flowery masonry. The lower part is lined with green granite. The listed color palette gives the monument its unique beauty. In the upper part of the dome there are four porticoes made for air ventilation and lighting. To the east of the mausoleum there is a four-roomed house for pilgrims, burial of Tarpanbaiuly Lenzat and about a dozen other burials.
The mausoleum is a monument of local importance. It has historical, cultural and socio-political significance and is a place of pilgrimage.
