Description
Koibagar. Petroglyphs of the Bronze Age, early Iron Age, Middle Ages, as well as Kazakh drawings of XVIII-XIX centuries. They are located 8 km south-west of the village Syzgan (Suzak district, SKR). The drawings were opened in 1972 by the Karatau group of SKCAE (headed by M.K. Kadyrbayev, an employee A.N. Maryashev).
Petroglyphs of Koibagar are an important discovery in the history of Kazakhstan. The first periodization and chronology of petroglyphs was based on Koibagar materials. Like Arpausen, it is one of the largest clusters of petroglyphs in Kazakhstan containing valuable information about the past. Petroglyphs reflect the worldview of the Bronze Age tribes.
The images are on boulders located on the slopes of three hills stretched along the gorge perpendicular to the main direction of the ridge. These hills are flat-headed remains. The largest number of petroglyphs is located on the Koibagar-III hill, located 700 m northwest of the Koibagar I hill. The drawings were created mainly by tribes of the Bronze Age, some of them were updated relatively recently. Ancient images were knocked out on the surface of blocks and fragments of granite shale. Most petroglyphs are grouped on the southern and southeastern slopes. The total number of petroglyphs is about 3000.
There are several significant cult scenes here. This is a battle scene around a large camel figure; a kind of zoological.
The ornament with figures of different animals connected by a connecting line; the image of a camel in a chariot. A unique scene with the image of a man harnessing horses into a chariot. Judging by the plots, style and techniques, there are fewer different petroglyphs in Koibagar than in the nearby gorges of the Karatau mountains. It is mainly the older group that is distinguished and the very later, lighter and coarse images.
Petroglyphs clearly show the idea of struggle and fertility, which are reflected in battle scenes, scenes of dogs tormenting goats and argali, as well as in erotic scenes and solar symbols. Together with other ancient drawings of Kazakhstan they form a single layer of rock art of the Bronze Age and are of archeological and artistic value.
The monument is a tourist attraction.
