Description

The monument is located 4 km south-west of Orkendeu village (Kazaly district, Kyzylorda region). The monument is located in the lowland, annually flooded by the waters of the Syr Darya River.

According to the information that has been put aside in the national memory, Kuttybai Akboluly was born in 1807 and died in 1900. He lived in the Aral-Kazaly region along the lower reaches of the Syr Darya River, known as the famous bi and batyr. Kuttybai was a bright boy from childhood, there are many stories about his heroism, prophetic gift, oratory art, which allowed him to resolve disputes and litigation among people when he was performing the duties of bi. The time of his participation in the government corresponds to a period when the Kokand and Khiva residents put political and military pressure on the Kazakhs.

The monument is a square structure in terms of shape with a high dome. The mausoleum is built of burnt rectangular bricks (6×13×26 cm), with a plan volume of 9×11.23 m and a height of 7.45 m. The mausoleum consists of an apron and a square (6×6 m) burial room with a prismatic structure. The monument therefore belongs to the two-chamber mausoleums. The peculiarity of such historical monuments is that, as a rule, a quadrangular, but smaller, entrance corridor adjoins the burial chamber. In many mausoleums along the Syr Darya, the entrance is arranged from the side facade. Rooms in the mausoleum of Kuttybay have a dome ceiling. On both sides of the door and on the lintel in three rows there are decorative cavities. The upper part is decorated with ornaments, the surface is decorated with recesses and round engraving in three rows. The entrance opening is arranged in the side facade towards the south-east. The mausoleum's facades are divided by pilasters at the corners and in the middle. The front part is decorated with bricks and ornaments. The main volume with the protruding foundation is decorated with edges in the form of "breadcrumbs". The peculiarity of the Kuttybai mausoleum built of burnt brick is its beautifully decorated dome. High-quality masonry of the dome is clearly visible from the inside, even rows of masonry harmoniously adjoin the buildings under the dome. The facade of the mausoleum is richly decorated and differs with the presence of peculiar domes. Elements of decorative finishing with brick in the mausoleum of Kuttybay now meet in various compositions of the local masters practicing art carving on a tree.

The Kuttybai Mausoleum is an object with peculiar architectural features and deep roots dating back to the end of the XVIII - beginning of the XIX century. Mausoleums, mosques and towers in Kazakhstan are works of construction art and cult architecture.

The personality of Kuttybai Batyr and Bi, as well as the place of his burial are sacral objects for the people. Oral information about Kuttybai's life and service to people is disseminated among the local population.

In 1982, the mausoleum of Kuttybay was included in the list of objects of historical and cultural heritage of national importance. It is protected by the state.
