Description

The monument is located on the bank of the river Ayat near the village Zhuravlevka (Taranov district, Kostanay region).

Batyr Zhabagy is a descendant of the legendary Kobylandy Batyr. In 1722 he died in a battle with the Kalmyks. Batyr's lineage begins with Zholynshy, Zholzhaksy's brother. Legends of the legendary batyr have survived among the people. According to one of them, a huge army of Kalmyks invaded the steppe and found their death just at the village of Batyr Zhabagy. Entering the battle with numerous troops, unarmed Batyr Zhabagy won the victory over the enemy. When a horse was killed under a batyr, he began to fight on foot and was eventually mortally wounded. Knowing that now he will not be able to recover from the wounds, Batyr Zhabagy gathered the soldiers and told them: "So that the corpses of the enemies did not poison the area, decomposing, dig a large hole and bury them. And when I die, put a big barrow of rocks and earth on top of it, and bury me at the very top. So that the enemies do not come to life, do not flee, I will lie on top, pressing them with myself and protecting the ground. Batyr Zhabagy's order was fulfilled: the barrow turned out to be so big that it is difficult to believe in its man-made nature. From Altai to Emba there are many such barrows in the steppe. Batyr's grave looks like a watchtower. On the edge of the village of Ayat, on seven winds, as if leaning on a pillow, lies a Batyr Zhabagy. "Under the banner of his rebellious, not ashamed to die undefeated! - Abai's words are remembered.

Located at the mouth of the Ayat River, the grave of the Batyr Zhabagy is considered a saint. Not far from the grave flows a healing spring. Pilgrims come here to honor the memory of the Batyr and heal.

In 2002 the descendants erected a monument to Zhabagy Batyr. There is a belief that a traveler, when passing by, should definitely bow and say a prayer.
