Exploration in the Guryev region
The Volga-Ural expedition of the Institute of Archeology of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR continued research in the Guryev region. In the Makat region, exploration of ancient monuments was carried out in the sands of Taisoigan. In the Ak-Shiganak tract, the site of an ancient crossing over the Uil river was investigated. A bronze pendant in the form of a horse's head, a handle of a red-clay vessel of the Khorezm appearance of the 12th century were found. In the Kara-Mola tract, a settlement of the Srubnaya culture was found on the shore of a dried-up reservoir. The area of the settlement is 50х30 m, the thickness of the cultural layer is 15-20 cm. In the tracts of Ketebai and Matkul, located 1 km from each other, two Guz wintering areas 150х50 m were studied.
Archaeological supervision over the site of Saraychik continued, which has been carried out systematically since 1974. The Urals annually erode the coastline by 1–2 m. In 1980, floodwaters were especially destructive for the coastal areas of Saraychik. The profile of coastal outcrops of the cultural layer was taken, and a 14th-century kiln for firing bricks was excavated.
